Based in Brooklyn, NY. Providing telehealth services for residents of New York State.

Kelsey Bickford LMFT

I'm glad you're here!

I help people free themselves from painful relational patterns and start feeling calm, safe and authentic. We will work through the ways trauma, marginalization, and difficult relationships can make it hard to feel and process your emotions, heal, accommodate yourself and truly be you.

I offer individual therapy, couples therapy and therapy for all kinds of relationship structures, including non-monogamous relationships and blended families.

Areas of Focus

I work with many different kinds of issues. Below are areas where I have extensive experience and/or additional training

Relationship Trauma and Family Trauma

I use an attachment-based approach that includes somatic interventions to help you safely process what happened in the past, and build a foundation of security and authenticity in the present.

LGBTQIA+ Issues and Relationships

I started my therapy career interning at an LGBTQIA+ community center, and have worked extensively with the queer community ever since. My approach is heavily influenced by queer theory, and I understand the unique issues that can come up around identity development, marginalization, family/community rejection, family planning, community building and so much more.

Polyamory and Non-monogamy

I have extensive experience working with polyamorous and non-monogamous individuals, couples/pairs and polycules/constellations of multiple people. I understand the unique issues that can come up whether you’re in an established non-monogamous dynamic, or just starting to practice non-monogamy.

Neurodivergence

I work with ADHD, AuDHD, Autistic, Highly Sensitive and otherwise neurodivergent folks. I have particular experience in helping people accommodate neurodivergence in all kinds of relationships. I know that therapy modalities aren’t always created with neurodivergent needs in mind, and I adapt my therapeutic approach to work with your neurodiversity.

Relationship Anxiety and/or Conflict

I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems and the Gottman Method to help you move through conflict and/or anxiety in a way that actually gets your needs met. I go beyond teaching communication skills, and into how to bond, create security, and truly respond to one another’s needs.

Sex Positive and Kink-Affirming Care

I approach sex, sexual health, preferences, pleasure and kink without any shame or stigma. I believe that sexuality is systemically shamed and oppressed in many cultures, and I work to provide a safe environment where you can be authentic.

Fees and Insurance

Do you have questions about payment? I’m happy to explore payment options together.

  • I am in-network with some Aetna, United Healthcare, Oscar, Oxford and Cigna plans. Please reach out to me to verify if sessions with me will be covered by your insurance.

  • If you have health insurance that I am not in-network with, you may have out of network benefits. This means you pay for sessions upfront, submit a superbill (I provide this to you), and you get a percentage of the cost reimbursed by your insurance.

Contact your insurance and ask if you have out of network reimbursement benefits, and if so, how to submit claims and what percentage will be reimbursed.

You may also have an HSA or FSA that can be used to pay for sessions.

  • Individual sessions are $200 for a 45-minute session

Couples/pairs and other relationship structures are $225 for a 45-minute session

  • I offer a limited number of sliding scale slots in my caseload, ranging from $50-$175 for a 45-minute session.

Please contact me to discuss a sliding scale rate.

Supervision and Consultation

I’m on a mission to interrogate the ways therapy interacts with larger systems of oppression, and build something that works better for all of us. My supervision is heavily influenced by queer theory, feminist theory, anti-racism work and the neurodiversity movement. I pay special attention to therapist development and positionality. I believe more inclusive therapy starts, in part, with how we train clinicians.

I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. I offer both contract supervision for therapists in training and consultation for fully licensed therapists.
